Mexican Wrestler - Lucha Libre Luchadore Costume

El Santo Mexican WrestlerLucha libre wrestling is thought to have first begun around 1863 based on Greco-Roman wrestling. But it was not until 1942 when a masked wrestler known as El Santo (The Saint) really kicked things off and got the attention of the mass public. He ended up wrestling for nearly 50 years and was one of Mexico’s most popular and loved luchadores. Along with ruling the ring he ended up in comic books, movies and was somewhat of a folk hero. Other early legends included the Blue Demon and Mil Máscaras who was influential in introducing the high-flying style of Lucha libre we see today. More recently Rey Mysterio has become one of most famous Mexican wrestlers through wrestling in the United States under the WWE.

We have a huge variety of luchador wrestling masks to choose from including Rey Mysterio, El Santo and the Jack Black created ‘Nacho Libre’. Currently, that amounts to over 40 different styles including many legends of the sport. They are a high-quality mask with a synthetic outer layer and soft foam padding inner and lace-up closure system so fit all size heads. Pair a mask with one of our wrestling capes and some tights and you are good to go. If you are planning on drinking some quality Mexican beverages and eating a few tacos just check that you are getting one with a mouth hole!

Mexican Lucha Libre Wrestling MasksThese masks are great options for events such as Rugby 7’s, 9’s, and team fun runs and mud dashes. We can provide bulk quantities for these events and have some great specials on some ‘seconds’ wrestling masks that are perfect for these type of events.

Mexican Mariachi Costume & Sombrero

Dating back to the 18th Century and having evolved in country areas of Mexico Mariachi music has a very distinctive style. Nowadays we see a more modern and urban representation of this that includes intricate formal outfits and sombreros. With Mariachi bands performing in restaurants, town plazas, whilst also still playing for traditional family events.

Mariachi Costume

After the Mexican Revolution, the Mexican government made efforts to create a unified Mexican identity and this included promoting Mariachi to the world as a symbol of Mexico that we still relate to today.

While we don’t have the full suit attire we can get you started with a quality sombrero. These stunning sombreros are full-size 53 x 56cm (21 x 22 inches) and are highly detailed with ornate sequins and embroidery patterns. Forget the flimsy and tacky costume sombreros that will likely get thrown away or shoved in the back of a wardrobe and go with a high-quality sombrero like this that you’ll want to keep forever and display. They make attractive wall hangings, adding a little touch of Mexican styling to your home. Available in four colour styles and a single head size of 7 - 7.79.

Mexican Ponchos

Another classic Mexican look with longstanding roots in South and Central America. Ponchos are thought to have been around since 500 B.C originating with a pre-Inca Peruvian culture.

Mexican Ponchos

Ponchos follow a simple design - basically a fabric piece with a neck hole designed to keep your torso warm. Many cultures have developed their own styles of this clothing item and during the 19th-century high quality, indigenous made Mapuche ponchos in Chile were valued at several horses. Ponchos were also regularly worn by soldiers during the American civil war, WW1 and WW2.

Ponchos have also made their mark in films becoming famous through Clint Eastwood’s distinct poncho that he wore in his Spaghetti Western films. Of which we have a great replica poncho available.

We have a few varieties of poncho available. These include;

Sarape Poncho: Iconically Mexican made in the sarape blanket style. Brilliant bright colours, with one prominent colour and multiple secondary colours. A lighter weight poncho (.3kg). Sure to brighten the scene at any Mexican party.

Clint Eastwood Poncho: Rock the cowboy look like the man himself! This is replica poncho as worn by Clint Eastwood in his famous Western movies including A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. A high-quality heavyweight poncho (1.1kg) that’ll keep you warm, whether partying, walking the dog, checking on the lambs or herding cattle.

Aztec Poncho: With a stylish dual-sided (black/white) design based on the Aztec Calendar. This poncho is the softest, warmest, most comfortable poncho around. Made from thick, soft and warm material and weighing 1.4kg this poncho not only makes a great Mexican costume piece but is stylish enough to wear out for a night on the town, and feels fabulous wrapped up on the couch on a cold winters day.

Once the party is over ponchos are still very versatile and useful. Great for throwing on as an extra layer of warm, whether at home or when heading out. They can be used as wall hangings, blankets, picnic rugs or as a table cloth for a little bit of Mexican flavour. Ponchos are super handy at the beach for modestly and easily changing in and out of togs and wetsuits.

Baja Hoodies

Baja hoodies hit the scene back in the ’70s after surfers to the Baja Coast of Mexico started bringing these back into the United States. They are also synonymous with the 70’s hippie and drug culture. Even sometimes being referred to as drug rugs. Made from recycled fibres of various materials Baja hoodies have a distinct look and feel. They provide excellent warmth and a unique woven texture that isn’t replicated in modern copies. In Mexico, Baja hoodies are called ‘sudadera de jerga’ and are popular in both the beach towns and the colder mountain areas.
