Enhancing the Longevity of Your Mexican Hammock
We often get asked here at Mexican hammocks whether our hammocks are waterproof, or if they should be taken down in rain. The short answers are no and yes!
Our Mexican hammocks are made from cotton or nylon material. As with any material being constantly left in the open and exposed to rain, sun and wind will impact upon it. If you leave your cotton t-shirt out in the rain all winter it will get damaged, possibly mouldy and eventually rot away. The same can happen to our hammocks if you neglect them in the same way and don’t follow a few simple steps of care.
The simplest and easiest way to protect your hammock and enhance it’s longevity is to just take it down and put it inside when not in use. Use a pair of ‘S’ hooks
on the end of your hammock to make this quick and easy. Inside you can easily purchase a couple of 3M type stick on hooks and place these on the back on a door, and then just hang your hammock of these until you next take it outside.
The other very simple option is to purchase a hammock cover $29.95, which simply slides over the hammock when not in use protecting the hammock from the elements.
A well cared for Mexican hammock will last you many years – we’ve even heard of people owning Mexican hammocks for 10-20 years. Even though the nylon corded hammocks are more durable to the elements we do still recommend following these steps for both types of hammocks.
So even though we are in the middle of summer now, it pays to look after your hammock so you can have on-going enjoyment for years to come. If you are in need of a replacement hammock then you are in the right place. See our full range of hammocks through our online store here – Mexican Hammocks
